Hamburg Tipp Hamburger Fischmarkt Altona Viele Hamburg Körbe mit verschiedenen Obstsorten wie Ananas Kokosnuss Mandarinen

Hamburg Fish Market

The Hamburg Fish Market, also known as the Altona Fish Market, draws crowds to the banks of the Elbe every Sunday from 5:00 to 9:30 a.m., inviting visitors to a leisurely stroll. While the traditional Sunday morning market is in full swing in the fish auction hall, the many vendors loudly hawk their wares. Besides fish, fruits, and vegetables, the fish market also offers baked goods, plants, souvenirs, and household items. Bulk sales, such as fruit baskets or bags of chocolates, are particularly popular. It's important to remember that these products should be consumed relatively soon. A visit to the fish market doesn't necessarily have to be early in the morning; arriving by 9:00 a.m. is sufficient, as the stalls are dismantled shortly before 10:00 a.m. Bargains can be found then, especially on baked goods and fish. Prices for fruit baskets and woven baskets generally remain the same. The fish market is generally accessible (caution: cobblestones!), but it can get very crowded towards the end of the market. Therefore, we recommend leaving strollers and dogs at home.

Neuwerk

Neuwerk is a truly enchanting, nature-filled idyll. The perfect place to simply slow down and breathe deeply. At low tide, Neuwerk can be reached on foot or by horse-drawn carriage. A carriage ride through the Hamburg Wadden Sea National Park is truly something special. At high tide, you can arrive by ferry. On Neuwerk, you'll find unspoiled nature. Large pastures for cows and horses, as well as an absolute bird paradise, await you. Terns, black-headed gulls, and oystercatchers have their breeding colonies here. If you'd like to circumnavigate the island, you can do so at a leisurely pace in 1.5 hours. With around 40 inhabitants, Neuwerk is quite manageable. The small cafes and restaurants offer a delightful culinary experience. Be sure to try the Frisian cake. Personally, island hopping with just an hour's stay wasn't enough for us, so we opted for an overnight stay in a straw loft with a fisherman offering horse-drawn carriage rides. Equipped with sleeping bags, this was a special experience for all of us. With luck, you might even enjoy a fantastic starry sky on Neuwerk. Breakfast the next day was delicious. Definitely plan some extra time for Neuwerk. Lying on the dike, watching the ships in the distance (we had a 20 km view), listening to the birds (some of them are quite loud), and simply enjoying the activity around you – Neuwerk will make you leave the hustle and bustle behind in no time. By the way, the islands of Scharhörn and Nigehörn also belong to Hamburg. However, they are under the jurisdiction of the local bird warden, and you can only visit them with his permission.
