Niedersachsen entdecken Hamburger Radrunde Blick auf den Radweg an der Seeve mit Radfahrer und großen Bäumen

Hamburger Cycle Route

The 250-kilometer Hamburg Cycle Route is a highlight for all cyclists. It circumnavigates the Hamburg metropolitan area and offers attractive routes, mostly through nature, including quiet hiking trails and former railway lines. The route is not currently optimally signposted, so it's advisable to plan your route carefully in advance. We used the route from Bikemap.de, which is recommended. The Hamburg Cycle Route leads from Wedel to Haseldorf, then on to Moorrege and Esingen, via Ellerhoop to Henstedt-Ulzburg and Sülfeld. From there, it heads south to Bargfeld-Stegen, Jersbek, Bargteheide, and Sprenge, before finally reaching Zollspieker via Kuddewörde, Aumühle, Reinbek, Bergedorf, and Kirchwerder. There, you can take the Elbe ferry to Hoopte (approximately a 5-minute crossing) or continue to Düneberg to cross the Elbe via the next bridge and then return to Hoopte. From Hoopte, the route leads to Wuhlenberg, where it turns into the Untere Seeveniederung nature reserve and continues via Planck, following the Seeve cycle path to Hittfeld. The route then proceeds through Emmelndorf, Woxdorf, Neu Leversen, Schwiederstorf, Wulmstorf, Eilendorf, and Buxtehude. The final sections include Hove, Jork, and Grünendeich before taking the ferry back to Wedel (approximately 30 minutes). This circular cycle route is a must for all cycling enthusiasts and is recommended to divide the route into 2-3 stages to allow for a more relaxed enjoyment of the scenery. Ferry schedules should also be checked in advance. Please remember to bring sufficient provisions, as there are only a few places to stop for refreshments along the route.

On New Year's Eve, the Brunsberg is a popular destination for watching the fireworks display across the entire region. Be sure to combine your trip with a walk through the Höllenschlucht (Hell's Gorge) and along the Heidschnuckenweg trail, which runs alongside it. Dogs must be kept on a leash year-round.

Adventure District Bispingen

The Adventure District in Bispingen is perfect for an action-packed and exciting day out. In five different districts, you can immerse yourself in illusions, experience 3D effects, and become part of spectacular photos. Among the Fun & Action Districts is the 3D Blacklight Golf District, where you'll enter blacklight rooms equipped with clubs, neon balls, and 3D glasses. Play mini-golf on 18 individually designed holes across five different themed worlds. Each themed world is uniquely designed, and the 3D glasses make the rooms even more immersive. Some rooms are even partially animated. In the 3D Illusion District, you can immerse yourself in the art of illusion and become part of spectacular photos. It's worth bringing your phone or camera, as photo points are marked for taking the best pictures. You don't have to be a professional to take great photos. In the Mystery Escape District, a mysterious blacklight labyrinth guides you through puzzles. At the start, you scan a QR code (free Wi-Fi is available on-site) with your mobile phone and solve the puzzles in the labyrinth. If you find the treasure at the end, a sweet reward awaits you at the checkout. Here, too, the 3D glasses enhance the effects in the labyrinth. In the Laser District, you can tackle a Mission Impossible challenge and press as many green buzzers as possible within a certain time without touching the red lasers, which block your path depending on the difficulty level. In the Arcade Gaming District, you can try out various mini-games. All adventure areas can be booked individually or as an adventure package. Children's and teenagers' birthday parties are also possible. We recommend a visit with children aged 6 and up.

In this special house, everything is upside down. When you enter, you step into a world of illusions. In Bispingen, you can visit this unique house and wander through its twisted rooms. Everything that's normally downstairs is up here, which will definitely test your sense of balance. Luckily, there are seats everywhere to help you get used to the unusual surroundings. Be sure to bring your camera to take lots of fun pictures. It's a good idea to turn the pictures "right-side up" right there to get a feel for the best poses. The Upside-Down House is a quick day trip; we explored everything in 30 minutes. It's a great place to stop for a break, as it's located right off the A7 motorway (Bispingen exit). If you'd also like to visit the Adventure Labyrinth on the opposite side of the motorway, the combination ticket might be worthwhile. You can also celebrate children's birthdays here.

The adventure labyrinth in the Lüneburg Heath, right off the A7 motorway (Bispingen exit), is a real test of nerves. Covering an area of 2,800 square meters, you can search for the right path, test your skills at 15 adventure stations, solve puzzles in a riddle rally, and learn interesting facts about the Lüneburg Heath. There's also an exciting picture puzzle for the little ones. The wooden labyrinth, which can be rearranged every year using a wooden interlocking system, is completely barrier-free. All the adventure paths are easy to navigate. From the 9.5-meter-high observation tower, you have a fantastic view of the surrounding area. We really enjoyed the labyrinth, even though the children were tired after 1.5 hours. For such cases, and of course for emergencies, there are emergency exits in the wooden labyrinth. So you can leave and re-enter the labyrinth at any time. By the way, if you also want to visit the Crazy House on the opposite side of the road, it's worth buying the combination ticket.

Serengeti Park

A visit to Serengeti Park is one of those special adventures you can experience with your family. The animals roam freely in the spacious safari areas and thus live much more freely than in a conventional zoo. You can experience the Serengeti Safari in your own car (included in the entrance fee), on the Serengeti Bus (for an additional fee), or in a special jeep (for an additional fee, a truly unique experience). On the safari, you'll encounter giraffes, lions, elephants, rhinos, flamingos, and many other animals. Drivers can use a special radio station and an app that provide information about the 16 different regions. Since the animals come very close to the cars and show no fear, we preferred to enjoy the safari on the bus. Our bus driver enriched the safari with many amusing anecdotes and fascinating details about the animals. However, it was quite hot on the bus! On our next visit, we would therefore book a safari in an open jeep to get even closer to the animals. The adventure park offers numerous rides, jungle animals, dinosaur exhibits, and other smaller safari tours, all included in the admission price. We particularly enjoyed the Jungle Safari and the Aqua Safari. Many rides require children to be at least 8 years old and 1.30 meters tall. A diverse show program completes the Serengeti Park's offerings. It's worth combining your visit with an overnight stay either directly in the park or at a nearby hotel. Dogs are welcome in Serengeti Park on a leash, but there are some restrictions to be aware of. The park is wheelchair accessible (accessible restrooms are available).

Picnics must be ordered in advance. You can choose between a standard, vegetarian, or vegan picnic, or order a complete barbecue package. The picnic is prepared in baskets on a handcart, and you stroll through the orchard to your reserved spot. This spot is lovingly prepared, whether in a small open-air hut with deck chairs for two or at a long table among the cherry trees for larger groups. Your spot is reserved until 6 pm, and you can relax in the orchard all day. The small beach by the water invites the little ones to play, and there's also a climbing frame. In case of bad weather, the orchard's cozy indoor spaces are available. There's also a café, a farm shop, and guided tours of the grounds. Please note that bringing your own food and drinks is not permitted.

Obsthof Matthies

At the Matthies fruit farm in Borstel, you can take part in an informative "Fruit Farm Express" tour. You'll travel directly through the orchards by tractor and rolling fruit crate wagon. Here, you'll learn interesting and exciting facts about fruit cultivation. The tour explains, in an entertaining way, how pests are dealt with and why strawberries "fly." The tour is particularly suitable for interested children aged 8 and up. Our older child found it a bit boring, but surprisingly learned a lot from the presentation. The farm café is highly recommended. A small farm shop offers regional products for purchase. A small playground next to the terrace invites children to run around and play.

Niedersachsen entdecken JorkBlick auf die Fachwerkhäuser im Dorfkern von Jork

Jork

If you're traveling in the Altes Land region, you should definitely take a short trip to Jork. The well-preserved half-timbered houses are particularly worth seeing. A stroll through Jork is especially rewarding. There's a small museum about the Altes Land and a 1.5 km long orchard trail that leads directly through the fruit orchards. However, the orchard trail isn't a loop, so you'll need to walk the 1.5 km back as well. Numerous information panels explain the importance of fruit cultivation. The trail is particularly beautiful in the evening. With a bit of luck, you might even spot deer and hares.
