Hiking trails in Norderstedt

Norderstedt offers a variety of signposted circular hiking trails. Whether on foot or by bike, nature invites you to relax and unwind –

far away from busy streets.

Norderstedt entdecken Grüner Ring Norderstedt Blick auf den Wanderweg neben einer Bahntrasse

Grüner Ring Norderstedt

The "Norderstedt Green Ring" is especially interesting for cyclists. The approximately 35-kilometer route leads through the most beautiful green areas of Norderstedt. The paths are mostly paved or surfaced. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find a proper map of this circular route, so you have to rely on the signage. The signs with the green bicycle and the inscription "GRÜNER RING" (Green Ring) and the green bicycle signs with the arrow will guide you around the ring. You can start, for example, in the Tarpenbek lowlands, from where the route continues to Ossenmoorpark. The route then leads towards Harksheide and Glasmoor, until reaching Norderstedt City Park. From there, it continues towards Harkshörn, Friedrichsgabe, and into the moorland enclosure, through the Garstedt fields, and via Garstedt back to the Tarpenbek lowlands. The Green Ring is highly recommended! Most of the way you cycle through parks and past horse paddocks. Along the way, you'll find several playgrounds, nature information panels, and rest areas.

Norderstedt entdecken Rundweg im Alsterland Norderstedt Blick auf ein Feld mit Informationsschild und einem Fernrohr

Trail at Alsterland

The 13-kilometer "Alsterland Circular Trail" is another beautiful route for hiking or cycling. Here you can discover 26 nature experience stations and try out a few playgrounds. Several smaller side trails branch off from the main paths, which are particularly exciting for children. The circular route leads through Norderstedt City Park, to Tangstedt Forest, past the Glasmoor (Glass Moor), and back to City Park via Ossenmoor Park. Unfortunately, the signage is sometimes a bit unclear. A detailed hiking map is available free of charge at Norderstedt Town Hall or online on the website from the city of Norderstedt.

Circular route in the Tarpenbek lowlands

Another lovely circular route can be found in the southeast of Norderstedt: the "Tarpenbek Lowlands Circular Trail," which is signposted as a "blue stream with two blades of grass." Along approximately 7.8 kilometers, you can discover 17 nature experience stations and several small playgrounds. Pay particular attention in the area of "Alter Teichweg" and near the "Falkenberg School," as the signage is somewhat poorly chosen there. A detailed map of the circular route is available online on the City of Norderstedt's website. The route is ideal for cyclists, but it's also wonderful to explore on foot. There are no places to stop for refreshments along the way.

Norderstedt entdecken Rundweg der Spielplätze Norderstedt Blick auf einen Spielplatzbereich mit einer Sandschaufelbahn

Playground Trail

The "Playground Trail" stretches for 13 kilometers and offers more than 26 playgrounds, play stations, and areas for soccer and skating. From ping-pong tables and volleyball and soccer fields to basketball hoops, giant slides, climbing towers, a disc golf course, carousels, and swings – there's something for everyone. The best way to explore the trail is by bicycle, allowing you to stop at the most scenic spots. The trail also includes two detours to additional playgrounds off the main route. Alternatively, there's a 4.4-kilometer section of the trail in Norderstedt-Mitte. This route includes 17 playgrounds and play stations. If children want to try everything, you should allow plenty of time. There are very few places to stop for refreshments along the route. It's recommended to download the detailed map of the trail from the City of Norderstedt's website, as the paths are sometimes unclearly marked or poorly signposted.

Norderstedt mit Kind Rundweg der Klänge Norderstedt Mädchen spielt auf einem großen Stein Xylophon

Sound Trail

The 7-kilometer "Sound Trail" is ideal for children who need frequent breaks. Thirteen interactive musical stations and four playgrounds are located along this beautiful circular route. The paths are fully accessible and perfect for bicycles, balance bikes, and strollers. One half runs directly along the Tarpenbek lowlands, and the other half follows the U1 subway line. Pay close attention at the intersection of "beim alten Kirchweg," the Norderstedt Mitte subway station, and the Herold Center, where the signage is somewhat confusing. It is recommended to download the trail map in advance from the City of Norderstedt's website. The trail is marked with two musical notes.

Norderstedt entdecken Wanderweg 2 in den Ohewiesen Blick auf den schmalen Wanderweg neben einem Wald und einer Weide

Hiking trail 2, circular route in the Ohe meadows

The "Ohewiesen Circular Trail 2" is an 11.2-kilometer circular route, but the signage is not ideal. Starting on Ohlenhoff Street, follow the path along the horse pastures. This section is very well marked with yellow arrows, the letters "SH," and green hiking figures. A beautiful landscape of meadows, small woods, and horse paddocks awaits you here. The trail ends behind the wooded area at the main road, Norderstedter Straße. From this point, the signage becomes quite unclear. The "SH" trail continues to the left towards the Wendlohe Golf Club, while the signs for the "Ohewiesen Trail" become indistinct. An alternative is to turn right at the main road and continue straight ahead until you reach Ohlenhoff Street again.

At 21 stations, you can do shoulder circles, squats, and torso circles, as well as practice on rings, hurdles, swing on bars, and balance on a balance beam. The trail leads through the forest, and you'll be walking exclusively on natural paths. Thanks to the tall trees, you'll almost always be in the shade. The trail is partially marked with black arrows.

Norderstedt entdecken Tangstedter Wald Blick auf einen großen Holzfrosch

"Auf dem Holzweg" in the Tangstedt Forest

The "On the Wood Trail" hiking path leads for 2 kilometers through the Tangstedt Forest and includes 8 nature experience stations that explain the history and significance of the forest. This route is particularly attractive for children, as they can discover a variety of wooden sculptures, such as a toad and a horse-drawn carriage. There are also various balancing elements and a pinecone gate. The trail is marked with the "Alsterland" sign and yellow arrows. Unfortunately, it is not a circular route, so you either have to return the same way or use other paths (if you know the area or have a GPS device). The starting point is at the parking lot on "Am Tangstedter Forst" street. Dogs are allowed but must be kept on a leash.
